The Winner’s story: From Strangers to Champions
Bev and Rachel, our first Strictly Dance winners of 2024
Strictly Dance
On a cold January night in 2024, two women, Bev and Rachel, complete strangers to each other, parked up in the car park at St. Justus Church. It was the night of the first Strictly Dance taster session, and neither knew what to expect. As they entered the hall, they could feel the anticipation in the air. A few couples had already arrived, and some individuals hesitated at the doorway, unsure of what lay ahead. Nervous laughter filled the room, as everyone stood up and learned a few steps of the Cha Cha Cha and the Waltz from our fantastic dance teacher, Hannah-Jane Ellery.
Once the basics were taught, we asked everyone to pair up. For those who had come as couples, the pairing was easy enough. But for the individuals who had come alone, it was a little more uncertain. People looked around, trying to find a partner. And then, in an unspoken moment of fate, Bev and Rachel, who had arrived at the car park at the same time, decided to dance together.
Neither of them could have known it then, but that simple decision would set the stage for something truly special. And thus, the story of two strangers turned dance partners began.

As the weeks went on, Bev and Rachel formed a bond. What started as tentative steps in a dance class soon blossomed into something stronger. They practiced, laughed, and supported each other every step of the way. Their connection grew, not just as dance partners, but as friends, united by the rhythm and the joy of movement.
Fast forward to June 29th, 2024 – the grand final of Strictly Dance. The energy in the room was electric, and every couple gave it their all. But when the moment came to announce the winners, it was Bev and Rachel who were crowned the first Strictly Dance champions of 2024.

Their journey had come full circle, from two strangers in a car park to a champion dance duo. The road hadn’t been easy, but their dedication, hard work, and unwavering friendship had carried them to the top.
And so, we celebrate not just their victory on the dance floor, but the beautiful story of how two people who started as strangers can come together and accomplish something extraordinary. This is the story of Bev and Rachel—our first Strictly Dance winners for 2024.
