Volunteer With The Charity

You make the difference

Wisdom Hospice Charity relies on the support of over 500 volunteers, who have pledged their time to help support the Wisdom Hospice. They come equipped with a can-do attitude and a helping pair of hands, and they are the magic ingredient behind our successful fundraising.

Why volunteer with us?

There are so many reasons that people volunteer with Wisdom Hospice Charity. They may have a personal connection to the Hospice, but not feel able to volunteer in a patient-facing capacity. Or they just want to give something back and our fundraising helps them do that.

It's a way to connect with the local community and to make new friendships all the time developing your skills and abilities.

For most; it's a little bit of everything, and usually a lot of fun!

Whatever your reason for considering volunteering, your support will be invaluable to us.

By volunteering with us you will:

  • Help make a difference to patients and families facing a life-limiting illness

  • Contribute to the future of your local hospices' care

  • Become a valued member of our wider hospice community

  • Have opportunities to learn new skills and develop existing ones

  • Have the flexibility to give time that suits your lifestyle and commitments

  • It really depends on the role you are volunteering to do. The most important skill is to smile and enjoy yourself. We want you to get back as much as you give when you volunteer.

You don't need to have volunteered before and you don't need any experience. You will be trained in your role and we will clearly explain what is expected of you.

  • Whether it is a regular afternoon or just helping out at one event in the year, any time that you are able to give really helps.
The time commitment for our volunteering roles can really vary. Some are just a one-off, some are more regular over a period of weeks.
So it's important to know how much time you are able to give and what kind of a commitment will work for you.

If you can’t find something to suit your availability straight away, please still apply. By telling us your interests and skills and when you can volunteer and we will be able to contact you with some options when they are available.

  • From age 14 - You are able to volunteer with a parent or guardian at any of our events that would be suitable.
If you are on a Duke of Edinburgh scheme
, you can volunteer in the Fundraising office with the Friends Team. This is where our fundraising ideas, day to day communications, admin and our accounting is done.

From age 16+- You can volunteer for any role that you feel able to do. Some roles might have additional restrictions or responsibilities that might not be suitable, so we will contact you to find out more if we need to.

And as long as you are able to volunteer there is no upper age limit.
